Superintendent Advisory Groups

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Group

The Superintendent’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Group supports the execution of the Strategic Call to Action as it relates to diversity, equity and inclusion. The Advisory Committee will:

  • Gain knowledge of current HCPSS practices to promote diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Advise on systemic efforts and practices involving diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Represent a wide range of perspectives, including staff, students, families and community organizations

ESP Advisory Group

The Superintendent’s ESP Advisory Group provides paraprofessionals with engagement opportunities that help cultivate the learning community. The Advisory Group will:

  • Voice their perspectives on classroom needs, priorities and issues
  • Connect paraprofessionals and build cross- school relationships through professional exchange
  • Advocate for supports that enhance academic achievement and social-emotional well-being

Mental Health Community Subcabinet

The Superintendent’s Mental Health Community Subcabinet seeks to ensure all Howard County children have equitable access to mental health services and supports that meet their individual needs. The sub-cabinet will bring together community leaders to improve student well-being by:

  • Advocating for mental health services and health promotion for young people in Howard County
  • Expanding education and training opportunities for staff and community members
  • Identifying and increasing access to mental health resources for students, families and the community
  • Collaborating to shape services for students with mental health needs

Program Innovation Advisory Board

The Superintendent’s Program Innovation Advisory Board supports the development of opportunities for HCPSS staff and students. The Advisory Board will:

  • Connect industry leaders with educators to provide robust program offerings
  • Expand experiential learning opportunities for students and staff
  • Align curriculum with industry trends
  • Create post-high school supports for students

Special Education Advisory Council

The Superintendent’s Special Education Advisory Council offers recommendations to improve school system programs, initiatives and supports for HCPSS students who receive special education services and their families. The Council will assist the school system and Department of Special Education (DSE) leadership in:

  • Examining current program, services, structures and practices
  • Highlighting areas of success
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Offering input for program improvement and accountability

Student Advisory Council

The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council offers recommendations to support school system programs and initiatives. Council members are HCPSS elementary, middle and high school students who focus on continuous improvement and supporting all schools through the lens of equity. The Advisory Council will:

  • Serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas and concerns related to the continued enhancement of HCPSS programs
  • Provide feedback for the ongoing development and evaluation of HCPSS programs and processes
  • Explore ways to identify and utilize available community and HCPSS resources to enrich educational experiences for all students
  • Develop leadership capacity among students, including those who are new to leadership roles
  • Empower students to have a voice in matters that concern them

Teacher Advisory Group

The Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Group provides teachers with engagement opportunities that help cultivate the learning community. The Advisory Group will:

  • Voice their perspectives on classroom needs, priorities and issues
  • Connect teachers and build cross-school relationships through professional exchange
  • Advocate for supports that enhance academic achievement and social-emotional well-being
