Early Childhood Beginnings: Birth to 3 years
Parents are a child’s first and most important teacher. There are many things a parent can do, starting at birth, to help their child. They can support learning during daily activities, such as feeding, bathing, grocery shopping, and playing! Parents can also partner with their child’s teachers, caregivers, pediatrician, and other service providers to help their child be successful.
Early Childhood Beginnings: 3 to 5 years
A child’s readiness for kindergarten depends on many things. In Maryland, a child is considered ready for school when he/she is five years old (by September 1). There are various abilities, skills, and concepts that support student success in kindergarten.

HCPSS provides high quality early childhood education that is rigorous yet developmentally appropriate. HCPSS also supports and promotes school readiness by focusing on families of, and community programs that work with, children ages birth to five.
Naviance/Family Connection
Naviance is a web-based career and college readiness platform that all middle and high school students and parents can access. It is used by school counselors and other staff in our schools, but students and families can access at any time.
