View Catalog & Recommended Courses
The middle school course registration process begins with students in grades 5-7 and their parents/guardians reviewing the Middle School Course Catalog, as well as the courses teachers have recommended for the students. Teacher recommendations are based on multiple criteria, including classroom performance, students’ expressed interest and results on standardized measures.
Students should use the Middle School Course Catalog to review course selections, taking careful note of descriptions and prerequisites.
When registration opens, students may view teachers’ course recommendations by:
- Logging into Synergy
- Selecting Course Request from the left panel. A page displays the student’s current recommendations for core classes and graduation status summary.
Parents/guardians may view teacher course recommendations by logging into HCPSS Connect Synergy and following the directions available online.
Please note that rising 6-8th grade students and their parents may submit course requests.

Rising 6th Grade (Current 5th grade): Please choose one Selected Course Request, and two Selected Alternate Course Requests in priority order. Once you have made your course requests click the button lock course requests. Note that these are course requests and placement is not guaranteed.
Rising 7th/8th Grade (Current 6th/7th grade): Please choose two Selected Course Requests. One of these must meet the fine arts requirements (Band, Chorus, Dance, Orchestra, General Music, Theater, or Visual Arts Studio). Next, choose two Selected Alternate Course Requests (World Language, Exploring Computer Science, Foundations of Technology, Readers & Writer’s Workshop, or a second Fine Arts Class) in priority order. Once you have made your course requests click the button lock course requests. Locked requests cannot be edited; changes to locked requests can only be made by contacting your school counselor.
Note that course requests are requests only; placement is not guaranteed.
Course Placement Review
If a student would like to enroll in a different level course than what was recommended by their teacher, parents/guardians can complete and submit a Course Placement Review (CPR) form online through HCPSS Connect Synergy. The CPR request must be submitted either electronically through the parent/guardian HCPSS Connect or to your school counselor. Directions on how to complete an online course placement review form can be found online.
Please note, if a course option is not available in the drop down menu, parents/guardians will need to download and complete a paper form (below) and submit it to their child’s school counselor. Forms received during the course registration period will receive priority during scheduling. Requests received after this time will be accommodated if space is available.
