On Dec. 14, 2023, the Howard County Board of Education named HCPSS Chief Academic Officer William J. Barnes as Acting Superintendent, effective Jan. 10, 2024.

Board Announces Nationwide Search for Permanent Superintendent

On Nov. 17, 2023, the Howard County Board of Education announced it would commence a nationwide search for a permanent Superintendent, working diligently to ensure a smooth transition and a bright future.

On Dec. 14, 2023, the Board approved a resolution to conduct a national search for Superintendent, with the goal of hiring a permanent Superintendent to start a four-year term beginning July 1, 2024.
