Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning (HVAC) Academy

Are you interested in how the systems in your home work? Are you mechanically minded? Do you like working with cool tools? Do you like to troubleshoot and solve problems?

The HVAC Career Academy provides a comprehensive understanding of the HVAC industry, covering residential, commercial, and industrial markets. It explores various segments like engineering, manufacturing, distribution, mechanical contracting, and education, highlighting how HVAC systems enhance comfort, product quality, and efficiency.

Industry Recognized Credential

Students are prepared for the National Center for Construction Education Research (NCCER) certified program in Core and HVAC I. Students also have the opportunity to earn OSHA 10 certification.

College Credit

Students who successfully complete the HVAC Academy program sequence, with a grade of B or higher in academy courses, may be eligible for credits at Howard Community College.

Successful Academy Students:

  • Maintain a C average in all academy coursework.
  • Complete senior level coursework through a work-site experience (students must provide their own transportation) OR by participating in the on-campus (ARL) course of advanced skills, which includes a capstone project.

Senior Level Coursework Requirements:

  • Complete at least 6-8 hours of work-site experience per week OR daily attendance at the Applications and Research Lab.
  • Attend weekly senior seminars at the Applications and Research Lab.
  • Choose a “real world” problem to research.
  • Maintain and submit a journal and portfolio of senior work
