Student Firetruck Tour

Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) students were given a tour of Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS) firetrucks. This young student thought the truck was pretty cool. The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services and the Howard County Public School System will work collaboratively on the new “Adopt-a-School” program linking each Howard County elementary school with its neighborhood fire station. The partnership will help students and staff at each school get to know their nearby first responders.

[Young girl speaking about her recent fire truck tour.]

(Student) We got to go into a fire truck to see everything. And that was kinda cool. And I thought it looked like pretty different. And my friend said she thought it looks like a chamber or a dungeon.

[Music Playing. Essential supplies are packed and loaded throughout the interior of the fire truck.]

[Firefighters showing student group where the ladders and other essential firefighting aids are stored on the truck.]

(Student voiceover) We could have a fire escape plan with our families. And then if there is a fire, then we could use that fire plan and get out of the house and call 911.
