Position Overview

Take the first step toward a career in the automotive industry as an Automotive Mechanic Apprentice! In this role, you’ll work closely with experienced technicians, learning how to perform vehicle maintenance and repairs. You’ll gain hands-on experience in diagnosing issues, performing routine services, and ensuring vehicles are operating at peak performance. This apprenticeship provides the perfect foundation for building a successful career in automotive mechanics. **Here’s what you’ll be doing:**

  • Vehicle Maintenance & Repair: Assist technicians in performing routine maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards.
  • Hands-On Learning: Work alongside assigned technicians to learn and develop skills in diagnosing mechanical issues, performing repairs, and maintaining vehicle systems.
  • Supply Management: Replenish tools, equipment, and supplies as requested by technicians or service managers to ensure a smooth workflow in the service area.
  • Tool & Equipment Care: Assist in maintaining a clean and organized workspace, ensuring tools and equipment are in good working condition.

The Essentials for Entry

  • Must be in Senior year of high school
  • Submit Application
  • Driver’s License Required
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must have 4 credits available in schedule for Apprenticeship courses, (ex. schedule: 1-4A or 4B, 5, & 6)
  • Class schedule not to exceed 3 credits including required English and Math to graduate

Your Apprenticeship Action Plan

  • Interview with HCPSS
  • Receive & Accept Employment Offer
  • Complete On-the-job-Training (20+ hrs a week minimum)
  • Complete Related Instruction (4+ hrs a week)
  • Complete year 1 of 2 year program

The ideal candidate is passionate about cars, mechanically inclined, and eager to learn from experienced automotive professionals. They are detail-oriented and enjoy working with their hands in a fast-paced environment.

  • Hands-On Learner: Excited to work directly on vehicles, gaining practical experience under the guidance of skilled technicians.

  • Detail-oriented: Pays attention to accuracy and quality when assisting with repairs and maintenance tasks.

  • Team Player: Works well with technicians and service managers to ensure vehicles are serviced efficiently and effectively.

  • Organized & Responsible: Helps maintain a clean and well-organized work environment, keeping tools and equipment ready for use.

Note: Completion of this apprenticeship program will earn you 3 credits for on-the-job training and 1 credit for related instruction, contributing to your graduation requirements.
