Position Overview

Start your journey into the world of education as an Educator Apprentice, where you'll play a key role in supporting teachers and students in the classroom. You'll assist with daily instructional tasks, provide one-on-one and group academic support, and contribute to lesson planning and classroom activities. This apprenticeship offers the perfect opportunity to build valuable teaching skills and experience that will help shape your future career in education. **Here’s some of your key responsibilities:**

  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers with daily classroom activities, maintaining a positive and professional attitude to support students’ learning.
  • Instructional Assistance: Help provide instruction to students, both one-on-one and in groups, in collaboration with the classroom teacher.
  • Student Engagement: Support students academically, offering individualized or group-based help to ensure they stay on track.
  • Planning & Collaboration: Participate in classroom planning sessions, meetings, and other professional responsibilities alongside the teaching staff.

The Essentials for Entry

  • Must be in Senior year of high school
  • Submit Application
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must have 4 credits available in schedule for Apprenticeship courses, (ex. schedule: 1-4A or 4B, 5, & 6)
  • Class schedule not to exceed 3 credits including required English and Math to graduate

Your Apprenticeship Action Plan

  • Interview with Howard County Schools
  • Receive & Accept Employment Offer
  • Complete On-the-job-Training (20+ hrs a week minimum)
  • Complete Related Instruction (4+ hrs a week)
  • Complete year 1 of 4 year program

Note: Completion of this apprenticeship program will earn you 3 credits for on-the-job training and 1 credit for related instruction, contributing to your graduation requirements.
