Position Overview

Begin your journey in the field of turf and landscape management as a Turf Maintenance/Agronomy Apprentice! In this role, you’ll master the core skills of golf course maintenance, from operating specialized equipment to applying fertilizers and chemicals with precision. You’ll not only learn how to keep green spaces thriving but also gain valuable experience in project leadership, budgeting, and staff organization. **Explore your role and key responsibilities:**

  • Golf Course Maintenance: Learn the day-to-day tasks involved in maintaining a golf course, including mowing, edging, and trimming.
  • Equipment Operation: Gain experience operating and maintaining industry-standard equipment, including irrigation systems, and learn how to keep them in top working condition.
  • Fertilizer & Chemical Application: Understand the fundamentals of applying fertilizers and chemicals safely and accurately, including calibrating equipment for proper application.
  • Project Leadership: Assist in staff planning, budgeting, and leading small projects to enhance turf and landscape areas.

The Essentials for Entry

  • Must be in Senior year of high school
  • Submit Application
  • Driver’s License Required
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must have 4 credits available in schedule for Apprenticeship courses, (ex. schedule: 1-4A or 4B, 5, & 6)
  • Class schedule not to exceed 3 credits including required English and Math to graduate

Your Apprenticeship Action Plan

  • Interview with Employer
  • Receive & Accept Employment Offer
  • Complete On-Boarding
  • Complete On-the-job-Training (20+ hrs a week minimum)
  • Complete Related Instruction (4+ hrs a week)

  • Detail-Oriented: Pays close attention to the precise application of fertilizers and chemicals, ensuring both safety and accuracy.
  • Technically Skilled: Enjoys learning how to operate and maintain industry equipment, including irrigation systems and mowers.
  • Leadership Potential: Ready to take on responsibility by assisting with staff planning, budgeting, and small project leadership.
  • Safety-Minded: Follows safety protocols when handling chemicals and operating machinery to protect both the environment and team members.

Note: Completion of this apprenticeship program will earn you 3 credits for on-the-job training and 1 credit for related instruction, contributing to your graduation requirements.

Online education will be completed as year one of Registered Apprenticeship.
