Position Overview

Start building a future in fire safety and engineering as a Fire Protection Technician Apprentice! In this role, you’ll gain valuable skills in reading and interpreting engineering drawings using AutoCAD while also learning the fundamentals of fire alarm and sprinkler system design. You’ll work closely with experienced professionals to understand NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and contribute to designing systems that protect lives and property. **Here’s what you’ll be working on:**

  • AutoCAD Design: Learn to read, interpret, generate, and modify engineering drawings in AutoCAD, focusing on fire protection systems.
  • Fire Alarm & Sprinkler System Design: Gain hands-on knowledge in the basics of designing fire alarm and sprinkler systems to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Code Compliance: Study and apply the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code to ensure that all fire protection designs meet safety standards.
  • Collaborative Learning: Work alongside experienced engineers and fire protection specialists to develop technical expertise in system design and implementation.

The Essentials for Entry

  • Must be in Senior year of high school
  • Submit Application
  • Driver’s License Required
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must have 4 credits available in schedule for Apprenticeship courses, (ex. schedule: 1-4A or 4B, 5, & 6)
  • Class schedule not to exceed 3 credits including required English and Math to graduate

  • Receive & Accept Employment Offer
  • Complete On-the-job-Training (20+ hrs a week minimum)
  • Complete Related Instruction (4+ hrs a week)

Note: Completion of this apprenticeship program will earn you 3 credits for on-the-job training and 1 credit for related instruction, contributing to your graduation requirements.
