In an effort to better understand the impact of staff and student absences for religious or cultural observances, the Howard County Public School System has created a survey to gather data on how these absences would affect the school system’s ability to deliver instruction and operate facilities effectively.
HCPSS has partnered with Hanover Research, a research firm based in Washington, D.C., to design and administer the survey and analyze the results.
The online survey will be shared directly with staff and parents/guardians of current students via an email from Hanover Research. Samples of the parent and staff surveys can be viewed online. The parent survey will be translated into Spanish, Korean and Chinese, with participants able to select their preferred language. Participation in the survey is voluntary.
Survey responses will be collected from one parent/guardian per family to capture information for all children in the household. Results will be confidential and provided to HCPSS as overall percentages. Examples of written responses may be used to illustrate certain points. No identifying information will be released with the reporting of results.
The results of the survey will be used in developing the academic calendar for the 2017–2018 school year.
Responses will be collected through June 28, 2016.
