May 27th, 2015

The Cedar Lane School was part of the Special Olympics Unified Relay Across America on Thursday, May 28, 2015. Two Cedar Lane student teams carried the Flame of Hope torch through the school’s parking lot and across a finish line. The segment of the relay took place on the Cedar Lane School campus located in Fulton, Maryland.

This was part of the Maryland segment of the relay that will ultimately carry the torch to Los Angeles for the Special Olympics World Games. Jim Smutz, president and CEO of Special Olympics of Maryland, attended the event. The Lime Kiln Middle School band also performed during the run.

During the Special Olympics Unified Relay Across America, people throughout the nation will carry the Special Olympics Flame of Hope across the country and deliver it to Los Angeles for the Special Olympics World Games. The relay started on May 26, 2015, and will cross the U.S. over six weeks. The Unified Relay consists of three simultaneous routes hitting all 50 states and is led by celebrity and Special Olympics athlete co-captains and supported by law enforcement officers.
