HCPSS Teams Move On To Black Saga State Competition

The Office of Secondary Social Studies hosted the 10th annual Black Saga countywide competition on February 21. Twenty students representing five Howard County middle schools came together to prove their knowledge of African American history and geography. Congratulations and thanks to all our students and advisors who participated!

Hammond Middle School is this year’s champion. Team members included Ryan Boubsil (Grade 6), Benjamin Guo (Grade 7), and Stone Li (Grade 6). Their advisors are Derrick Jameson and Robyn Page.

Patuxent Valley Middle School took second place. Team members included Akash Chauhan (Grade 8), Amira Cooper (Grade 8), Derek Oppenheim (Grade 6), and Iman Toure (Grade 6). Their advisors are Monica Bickerton and Marcus Nicks.

Bonnie Branch Middle School earned third place. Team members included Alex Biji (Grade 6), Kyra Britt (Grade 7), Anii Harris (Grade 7), and Maneesha Mahanama (Grade 7). Their advisors are Dawn Wrenn and Faye Ebron.

All participating students are now eligible to move on to represent HCPSS at the Maryland Black Saga Competition on March 14.
