Three New Partnerships Promote a Lifelong Appreciation for Music

December 15th, 2014

The Howard County Public School System has partnered with the Candlelight Concert Society, the Howard County Concert Orchestra, and Sundays at Three to enhance participation in countywide music programs. All three partnerships will be formalized with an official partnership signing Wednesday, December 17 at the Sheraton Columbia Waterside Restaurant, 10207 Wincopin Circle.

The three organizations will provide various outreach opportunities to middle and high schools including mini-residencies, performances, workshops, sectionals, and clinics and will serve as resources for HCPSS Music, Band, and String teachers by providing technical advice through demonstrations and coaching.

In addition, the Candlelight Concert Society will provide internationally renowned artists for school workshops, the Howard County Concert Orchestra will provide opportunities for students to perform side-by-side with professional musicians, and Sundays at Three will annually recognize an outstanding junior year chamber instrumentalist in each high school. In line with Vision 2018, this partnership supports student competence in the arts.

Howard County Board of Education Members Bess Altwerger, Sandra French, Ellen Flynn Giles, and Christine O’Connor; HCPSS Superintendent Renee A. Foose; and Music Instructional Facilitator Terry Eberhardt will join Candlelight Concert Society Executive Director Tracey Schutty, Howard County Concert Orchestra Music Director Ronald Mutchnik, and Sundays at Three Vice President and Managing Director Harry Glass to sign the formal partnership agreements at the December 17 event.

The Candlelight Concert Society is a Maryland based concert presenter, offering professional world-class chamber music concerts, children’s programs, community outreach programs, master classes, and pre-concert lectures and discussions.

The Howard County Concert Orchestra is a professional orchestra dedicated to exceptional performances of classical music from the Baroque era to the 21st century.

Sundays at Three presents chamber music played by the finest professional talent in the Baltimore-Washington area. Performers interact with the audience by having conversations about their music and offering insights and interpretations.
