Message from the Superintendent: Important Health & Safety Message

The following health and safety update was sent by the Superintendent to families and staff.

As the fall season gets underway and many activities move indoors, this is the time when we experience an increase in the spread of the flu, colds, COVID-19 and other communicable diseases. In a continuing effort to keep our schools, offices and classrooms as healthy as possible, I want to remind everyone that all HCPSS students and staff must stay home if they are experiencing symptom(s) associated with any communicable disease, including the seasonal flu, COVID-19 and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). The triple threat of these three diseases continues to impact us and I encourage all parents/guardians to perform a daily health check every day before your child leaves home to help ensure the health and well-being of our school communities.

As a reminder, all HCPSS students and staff must adhere to HCPSS guidance related to exhibiting symptoms and testing positive for COVID-19 which are detailed on the HCPSS 2022-2023 Health & Safety website.

To help us maintain our goal to provide students and safe with a safe learning environment, I ask families to engage in healthy practices and consider taking advantage of COVID-19 testing, vaccination and booster opportunities available through the Howard County Health Department. Information about the seasonal flu vaccine is also available online.

As always, our school administrators and staff will provide necessary supports for any students who may be unable to attend school due to illness. Parents/guardians should reach out to their school administration if they require any assistance.
