Howard County Public School System Recognized by U.S. Department of Education for Environmentally Sustainable Practices

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) has earned a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools District Sustainability award for 2015. Howard County is one of just nine districts nationally and is the only Maryland system to win this year’s award.

The national award recognizes districts that save energy, reduce costs, feature environmentally sustainable learning spaces, protect health, foster wellness, and offer environmental education to boost academic achievement and community engagement.

“This award recognizes our commitment to environmental education and environmentally-friendly practices,” Howard County Public School System Superintendent Renee A. Foose said. “I congratulate our students, staff, and community partners for their achievements and commitment to sustainable practices.”

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation has also praised HCPSS for their leadership in environmental education.
