Black Student Achievement Program (BSAP) Elementary Summer Learning Camp Preview

This 4-week integrated enrichment program provides an exciting extended learning experience for students in reading,mathematics and science. Students will be exposed to skills that are assessed on state tests and will also have opportunities to participate in a wide range of enrichment experiences including art,drama, music, Chinese and Spanish. The program is open to all Howard County students entering Grades 1-5.

Secondary BSAP Student Enrichment and Accelerating Achievement of Leadership (SEAL) Summer Program Preview

This integrated program provides extended learning opportunities for Howard County middle and high school students. Students will practice skills that are assessed on state tests and will also have opportunities to participate in a wide range of enrichment experiences including drama, journalism, art and engineering. The program is open to all Howard County students entering Grades 6-12.

Career Academies Summer Institutes Preview

The Career and Technology Education (CTE) Office is offering exciting, week-long summer institute opportunities for middle and high school students interested in learning more about careers and how career areas relate to their own interests. Students will participate in hands-on activities and explore career areas such as: Biotechnology, Health Services, Visual Communications, Automotive Technology, Architecture, Construction Management, Finance, Culinary Science,and Engineering, which are offered through the Career Academies high school program. Enrollment is limited on a first-come, first-served basis. Students will receive a T-shirt and a Certificate of Participation.

    Session I - June 18-22; 8-11:30am
    Session II - June 18-22; 12:30pm-4pm
    Session III - June 25-29; 8am-noon
  • Meals and Transportation: No meals or transportation provided. Students participating in both am and pm sessions on a given day, must bring a bagged lunch.

Comprehensive Summer School Preview

The Comprehensive Summer School Program offers programs for acceleration and enrichment to students in elementary, middle and high school. A counselor's signature is required to enroll in any HS course offerings.

The Pre-K, Elementary and Middle School (Pre-K-8) Program provides two sessions of educational opportunities for students requiring extended curriculum support, while elective classes offer creative and innovative learning experiences. Let's Get Ready for Kindergarten, for students who will be entering kindergarten in the fall, will support school readiness. Let's Get Ready for First Grade, for students who have successfully completed Kindergarten, will focus on math, reading, writing,science, personal and social development, and art and music activities.

Students in grades 1-5 may enroll in review/enhancement classes in the core instructional areas of reading and math. Middle school students may also enroll in review classes in reading and mathematics including Pre-Algebra. Our new Session Three, offers many new and exciting after-school opportunities for students with an emphasis on fun, creativity, and expression and exploration in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) experiences, world languages exposure, drama and other project and inquiry-based programs.

The High School Program (9-12) provides original and review credit for the diploma-bound student. Additional courses will prepare incoming freshmen for high school assessed courses while mastery courses assist students needing to pass high school assessments. Advancement courses in Geometry GT, Algebra II GT, Chemistry GT, Physics GT, and Biology GT will also be offered.

G/T Summer Institutes for Talent Development Preview

  • The G/T Summer Institutes provide interested students with advanced-level instruction and enrichment experiences not regularly available during the academic school year. Advanced level classes are offered in math, science, language arts, technology, social studies and fine arts. The curriculum is focused on talent development and provides academically and artistically rigorous activities. Teacher recommendations are required to participate. View complete summer booklet.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Summer Institute Preview

Course Name: STEM Information Assurance, Information Security and Digital Forensics(IT)
Course Details: Participants will engage in hands-on activities and learn about the field of cyber security. They will learn to apply basic security concepts through gaming, modeling and simulation development, while investigating exciting careers that interconnect the fields of science, math, technology and computer security. Students will actively engage in hands on activities related to cryptography, system vulnerabilities, computational logic and digital forensics. They will discuss careers in computer security/digital forensics and will learn more about security clearance processes and identity management strategies. Students will tour local labs and hear guest speakers from state and federal agencies.
