What a School Psychologist Does
The role of the school
psychologist within a particular school varies according
to the needs of each school community. School
psychologists provide essential services to students,
school staff, and parents. Services include intervention
strategies to address and prevent academic and
behavioral difficulties. Crisis intervention and
individual or group counseling is provided, when
necessary, to address behaviors that interfere with
learning. School psychologists are active in efforts to
prevent suicide and school violence. Moreover, they
serve as liaisons between the school and community
mental health professionals.
