Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for the 2008-2009 school
year will begin March 3, 2008. To register for kindergarten, children must be
five years old by Sep. 1, 2008. Some rare exceptions for early admittance
to school may be made. Parents
requesting a one-year waiver to defer entry to kindergarten may obtain a form by
calling the Office of Elementary Administration at 410-313-6609.
Every child who is five years old by Sept. 1,
2008, must be enrolled in a kindergarten program this fall.
Register Early
Children should be registered by the custodial
parent or guardian at the school they will be attending. (See
School Attendance Areas to determine school
assignment.) Children should be registered at their school as soon as possible.
School staffing is based enrollment numbers and staffing can be adversely
affected by late registrations.
Parent/Guardian is required to bring
- Proof of Age:
Birth Certificate
(Lost birth certificate? For children born in Maryland, a
copy of the child's birth certificate can be obtained from the
Howard County Health Department, 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive
(off Rt. 175) or call 410-313-6300. There is a charge for the
copy.)
- Verification of Address (two items)
- Lease or Deed (with name on it)
and one of the following:
- Current cable bill, phone bill or utility bill (with name
on it).
- Immunization Records (see Immunizations below)
- Social Security Number (optional)
- If applicable --- Legal proof of custody
(court order)
- Photo ID of parent
Immunizations
Maryland
State immunization regulations require all students to have completed
their immunizations in order to attend school. Proof of the completed
immunization series must be provided before the first day of school. Required shots include:
- 4 DTP
- 3 polio
- 2 measles
- 1 mumps
- 1 rubella
- 3 hepatitis B
- 1 varicella (chicken pox)
The
Maryland Immunization Certificate should be completed with the
dates of all vaccines by the health care provider, or the health
department; a parent's signature is not permitted. Free immunization
is available from the Howard County Health Department.
The only exceptions are:
- A medical contraindication (exemptions
for specific immunizations) signed by a physician.
- A lost or destroyed record statement signed
by a parent. Proof of measles and rubella immunization by a blood
test must be presented. Revaccination may be required. For assistance,
contact the Howard County Health Department.
- A religious exemption statement signed
by a parent.
- A homeless student may be temporarily
admitted by the school principal.
