Academic Transition Assistants for Middle and High School Students
BSAP staff in middle and high schools are known as Academic Transition Assistants (ATAs). ATAs implement a coordinated system of countywide and school-based strategies for middle and high school black students to support their academic achievement. BSAP works to promote the holistic wellness of black students in their respective schools.
Specific responsibilities include:
- School-based, academic case managers who monitor a formal caseload of 12 -15 students (The Rising Scholars initiative).
- Collaborate with parents in support of student achievement.
- Provide school-based workshops for parents and students on their formal and informal caseloads.
- Serve as consultants to staff on issues related to black students.
- Implementation of academic intervention initiatives.
- Communicate regularly with principal or designee as well as school support staff to monitor student progress.
- Meet monthly with BSAP Specialists.
- Assist students with the development of academic and social goals.
- Assist students with the development of strategies aimed toward attaining academic and social goals.
- Assist students in examining and resolving barriers to attaining their maximum potential.
- Elevate personal pride and awareness through the presentation of culturally focused educational events.
