June 7th, 2018

The Howard County Public School System has partnered with the Inner Arbor Trust, Maryland Winds, Seasons 52 and the United States Navy Band to support an educational environment that connects music, arts, culture and the community. The partnerships were formalized with an official partnership signing on Monday, June 4, at Seasons 52 in Columbia.

The Inner Arbor Trust will host a high school jazz festival at the Chrysalis at Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods. Inner Arbor Trust staff will provide sponsorship and event management support for the annual event.

Maryland Winds will provide educational engagement opportunities for high school students through large ensemble clinics, master classes, and side-by-side playing prior to dress rehearsals.

Seasons 52 will host a “Teachers as Artists” music performance series during its Sunday brunch four times throughout the year. Seasons 52 will also provide meeting space for music staff meetings and gatherings.

United States Navy Band musicians will take part in outreach activities in HCPSS schools that include instrument demonstrations for elementary schools, coaching students preparing for auditions, judging student adjudications, and offering performance clinics.

Howard County Board of Education Member Sandra French, HCPSS Interim Superintendent Michael Martirano, Chief School Management and Instructional Leadership Officer Frank Eastham, Chief Communication, Community and Workforce Engagement Officer Jahantab Siddiqui, Curricular Programs Director Jenny Novak and Music Coordinator Terry Eberhardt joined Inner Arbor Trust Board Chair Lin Eagan, President and CEO Nina Basu, Maryland Winds Executive Director Mark Bowling, Artistic Director Timothy Holtan, Education Director Ginger Turner, Seasons 52 Managing Partner Mark Underwood, Sales Manager Nakeata Boddie, United States Navy Band Executive Officer Lieutenant Commander Mark Corbliss and Music Education Outreach Coordinator Chief Musician Randy Johnson to sign the formal partnership agreements at the June 4 event.
