Celebration Church Partnership Supports Diverse Perspectives in the Classroom

The Howard County Public School System has partnered with Celebration Church to collaborate on opportunities to increase mutual understanding in a culturally diverse community. The partnership was formalized with an official partnership signing on Thursday, June 7, at the Sheraton Columbia Waterside Restaurant.

Under the terms of the agreement, Celebration Church will collaborate with middle and high school principals to promote academic excellence and self-esteem by conducting a mentoring program for students focused on personal responsibility, study skills and character growth. Celebration Church representatives will participate in classroom discussions that include a diverse history and the positive impact made by a wide range of historical figures. Celebration Church will also provide support for student leadership development, diversity training and restorative justice, and will work with the HCPSS Pupil Personnel Office to provide holiday meals and clothing for HCPSS families.

Board of Education Vice Chairman Mavis Ellis, HCPSS Chief School Management and Instructional Leadership Officer Frank Eastham, Executive Director of Community, Parent and School Outreach James LeMon, Hammond High School Principal John DiPaula, and Long Reach High School Principal Joshua Wasilewski joined Celebration Church Senior Pastor Robbie Davis, Deputy Pastor Larry Walker and Deputy Pastor Student Ministries Matthew Quainoo to sign the formal partnership agreement at the June 7 event.

Founded in 1973, Celebration Church is a neighborhood church in Columbia, Maryland. With a vision to help people win in life, outreach efforts have impacted local, national and international communities.

The Howard County Public School System’s Partnerships Office has united schools with more than 1,000 businesses and community organizations to enhance the educational experience of Howard County students. Partnerships benefit schools, businesses and the entire community by leveraging the resources of all participants. Partners may commit human or financial resources or other support.
