Centennial High School Wind Ensemble Chosen to Perform at 2018 International Conference

May 2nd, 2018

The Centennial High School Wind Ensemble has been invited to perform at The Midwest Clinic International Band, Orchestra and Music Conference in Chicago from December 19–22. With over 17,000 attendees from around the world, the Midwest Clinic is the largest music conference of its kind.

After an intense and highly selective audition process, the Centennial High School Wind Ensemble is one of only five high school bands from the United States invited to perform at the conference. The ensemble is only the fourth high school band from Maryland to be accepted in the 72-year history of the conference, and is the first Maryland band selected since 1973.

Under the direction of David Matchim, the Centennial High School band program has over 240 students in three concert bands, a marching band, a percussion ensemble, and an award-winning jazz band. Matchim was the 2016 recipient of the Howard County Parents for School Music’s Music Educator of the Year Award.

The Midwest Clinic showcases performances by ensembles from around the world, presentations by experts in music education, and the latest music industry trends for all age and experience levels. The Midwest Clinic is the largest instrumental music education conference in the world.
