Northfield Elementary School Launches Intergenerational Partnership

May 3rd, 2017

Northfield Elementary School (NES) is partnering with the Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant to promote intergenerational learning between students and Miller’s Grant residents. The partnership will be formalized with an official partnership signing on Thursday, May 4, at the Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant in Ellicott City, Maryland.

Under the terms of the agreement, Miller’s Grant residents will collaborate with school staff to provide support for the NES Fitness Fridays program, assist in music classrooms, help maintain the school garden, and read to students. Miller’s Grant residents will also serve as guest speakers in classrooms on topics such as chosen professions, schooling requirements, and academic skills used on the job. NES will include Miller’s Grant residents in school activities, programs and special events throughout the school year. Aligned with Vision 2018, this community partnership supports the well being of students and provides learning experiences that promote depth of knowledge.

Northfield Elementary School Principal Tiffany Tresler and Assistant Principal Colleen Golden will join the Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant Executive Director Paula O’Neill and Director of Resident Life Lynn Glaeser to sign the formal partnership agreement at the May 4 event.

The Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant is a faith-based, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community with 205 apartments and 35 unique single and duplex homes located in Ellicott City.
