Five HCPSS Schools Ranked on U.S. News Best High Schools List

Five Howard County high schools have been ranked among the best in Maryland and the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Marriotts Ridge and River Hill high schools are ranked among the top 10 in the state. The 2017 Best High Schools rankings awards the top 6,041 public high schools with gold, silver and bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.

The HCPSS schools included on the list and their respective state rankings among 206 Maryland schools are:

The rankings were developed from data on more than 22,000 public schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia. Schools were recognized based on criteria including graduation rates higher than 75 percent, reading and math results on state proficiency tests, math and reading proficiency rates for disadvantaged students, and scores on the U.S. News & World Report’s College Readiness Index, which is based on the school’s AP participation rate and how well the students did on those tests.
