Board of Education to Recognize Giant Food with 2017 Friends of Education Award
Posted: March 13th, 2017
The Howard County Board of Education will recognize Giant Food with the Friends of Education Award at a reception on April 6, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. The reception will be followed by an award presentation at the 4 p.m. meeting of the Board. Both events will be held at the Department of Education, 10910 Clarksville Pike in Ellicott City.
Principals Megan Chrobak of Oakland Mills Middle School (OMMS) and Rick Robb of Patuxent Valley Middle School (PVMS) nominated Giant Food for their immense generosity through donations that promote healthy meals for students and their families in Howard County, in alignment with Goal 1 of Vision 2018.
Giant Food has provided more than 25 Thanksgiving meals to PVMS families for the last four years. The company provided almost 600 boxes of organic, nonperishable foods to schools in the OMMS cluster. Giant also supports students who eat 1–2 meals at school with meals over extended school breaks.
The generosity of Giant Food has been an integral part of fighting childhood hunger in the PVMS and OMMS communities, and the organization continues to support school events and connect families in need with healthy food.
The Friends of Education Award was established in 2001 to salute exemplary volunteer contributions of time and talent that directly support academic achievement and safe learning environments for the HCPSS.
