Stevens Forest Elementary Volunteer Honored at Governor’s Services Awards Ceremony

Stevens Forest Elementary School Volunteer Beth Buzzio received the Individual 2016 Governor’s Service Award today during the 33rd Annual Governor’s Service Awards Ceremony was held at the Miller Senate Building in Annapolis.

The Governor’s Service Award is presented to individuals who demonstrate sustained volunteer commitment to meeting Maryland’s most pressing human and/or environmental community needs; engage in meaningful volunteer service that makes a measurable difference in the community; represent extraordinary acts of generosity and kindness; and through volunteerism, have an impact on the greater community.

Buzzio was nominated for her unwavering commitment to students, demonstrated through years of providing consistent and creative activities focused on language development and emerging literacy skills. Buzzio represents students’ personal interests through stickers, posters, costumes and toys in a learning clubhouse she created at Stevens Forest Elementary School. Buzzio also volunteers in the Bridges after school program where she supports English language learners with vocabulary acquisition, homework completion, and enrichment activities.

The Governor’s Service Awards are presented by the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism each year. The awards recognize Maryland citizens for their significant volunteer contributions to the state and its people.
