First National Bank Establishes In-School Bank at Clemens Crossing Elementary School

September 19th, 2016

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) announced a new partnership today between Clemens Crossing Elementary School (CCES) and First National Bank to teach students the importance of personal financial planning and the benefits of saving. The partnership was formalized with an official signing on September 20, at the Sheraton Columbia Waterside Restaurant.

Under the terms of the partnership agreement, First National Bank will create an in-school bank for CCES students. Selected fourth and fifth grade students will be trained as tellers to assist with deposit collection. First National Bank representatives will conduct financial seminars for CCES parents and will work with staff to develop opportunities to teach financial math skills at school events such as Career Days and school fairs. Aligned with Vision 2018, this partnership provides learning experiences that promote critical thinking, problem solving and depth of knowledge.

Howard County Board of Education Vice Chairman Ellen Flynn Giles, HCPSS Deputy Superintendent Linda Wise, CCES Principal Ed Cosentino, and Band and Strings Teacher Marybeth DeSantis Eber will join First National Bank Market Manager James Aryee and Assistant Vice President Violet Houston to sign the formal partnership agreement at the September 20 event.
