August 12th, 2016

Read Corrected Press Release

The Howard County Board of Education announced today an adjustment to its meeting schedule to increase efficiency and reduce fiscal impacts. Beginning on September 8, 2016, the Board’s first meeting each month will begin at 3 p.m. and there will be no evening sessions moving forward. The second Board meeting each month will begin at 6 p.m. Public hearings will be held during the second meeting of the month.

“By meeting earlier and only having one session, the Board of Education can lower operating costs by reducing the amount of time that the central office building is in use and eliminate food service expenses,” said Board Chairman Christine E. O’Connor. “Our goal is to increase the efficiency of our meetings and take advantage of savings without reducing the public’s access to our meetings.”

The Board of Education’s meetings are held in the Boardroom at the Department of Education, 10910 Clarksville Pike in Ellicott City. Meetings are broadcast live, and rebroadcast at later dates on HCPSS TV, cable channel 95 (Comcast) and channel 42 (Verizon). Board meetings also can be viewed online, live or on-demand, using the “Watch BOE Meetings” link on the Board website.

Changes to the Board’s schedule will be reflected on the Board meeting schedule updated in BoardDocs.
