Howard County Parent Recognized During Ninth Annual Parent Involvement Matters Awards

May 25th, 2016

Scott Brown, a Swansfield Elementary parent, is a semifinalist and the Howard County honoree for the Parent Involvement Matters Award.

The Parent Involvement Matters Award (PIMA) Program is a statewide initiative that recognizes parents and legal guardians for their exceptional support of public education. Parents are nominated for demonstrating significant, positive contributions in their education communities. This is PIMA’s ninth year.

Brown is being recognized for his role in developing and supporting the Mighty Men program at Swansfield Elementary School. The program provides an opportunity for fathers and other important men in students’ lives to volunteer for a day at Swansfield. Brown also volunteers in his daughter’s classroom, helps at special events, supports field day, reads to students in the school’s reading room, provides monthly staff appreciation lunches, and organizes staff dinners during parent-teacher conferences.

The PIMA Program honors parents from local school systems across Maryland, nominated for their contributions in one or more of the five areas of parental involvement: communication, volunteering, learning, decision making, and community collaboration.
