Howard County High School Students Recognized as Presidential Scholars

Two HCPSS high school students have been honored as U.S. Presidential Scholars by the U.S. Department of Education. Nicholas Santangelo of Marriotts Ridge High School and Meghna Sreenivas from Reservoir High School were recognized for their accomplishments in career and technical education.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars program was recently extended to recognize 20 students nationwide who demonstrate ability and achievement in career and technical education fields. Both Howard County students honored were part of this inaugural class of CTE Presidential Scholars.


Meghna Sreenivas, Reservoir High School

The 2016 U.S. Presidential Scholars are comprised of one young man and one young woman from each state, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, and from U.S. families living abroad. Fifteen students are chosen at-large, 20 students are selected as U.S. Presidential Scholars in the arts and, for the first time, 20 U.S. Presidential Scholars were chosen for career and technical education. There were a total of 160 students named in this class of 2016 U.S. Presidential Scholars.


Nicholas Santangelo, Marriotts Ridge High School

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program has honored almost 7,000 of the nation’s top-performing students with the prestigious award given to honorees during the annual ceremony in Washington, D.C. The 2016 ceremony will be held June 19. Each honoree will receive a Presidential Scholar Medallion.

The students will also be recognized at the May 26 meeting of the Howard County Board of Education.
