November 24th, 2015

River Hill High School student Mitchell Evans has been selected to join 125 student musicians from around the country to perform with the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. Evans, a senior, has been playing the tuba since he was in fourth grade. For the performance, he will play a sousaphone—a type of tuba widely used in marching bands.

Evans was welcomed by members of the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band during a special recognition event held on Friday, November 20 at the school. HCPSS Superintendent Renee Foose and other special guests were in attendance for the recognition, at which the Army presented Evans will a special band jacket.

Evans is one of just three musicians representing the state of Maryland to take part in an exclusive performance at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on January 9. The premier high school game will be held in San Antonio, and will be nationally televised on NBC. Prior to the game, Evans will spend one week in San Antonio and will receive instruction from top instructors from around the country.
