HCPSS Staff and School System Recognized at the August Board of Education Meeting

Superintendent Renee A. Foose recognized the following staff and school achievements at the Board of Education meeting on August 13, 2015:

Staff:

Wilde Lake High School biology teacher Jessica Mulhern has been chosen as a national Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow. Jessica is sponsored by the Department of Energy’s Office of Science and will serve as a Congressional Fellow on Capitol Hill in the Office of Congressman John Sarbanes.

Middle School Literacy Coach Susan Gum this summer was selected from more than 300 applicants to participate in the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Summer Teacher Institute. During the program, participants work with library education specialists and subject-matter experts to learn effective practices for using primary sources in the classroom.

Organization:

Howard County Public School System has been recognized with the 2015 Annual Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award. Given annually by the National Procurement Institute, the AEP Award recognizes best practices in innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity and leadership in procurement function. HCPSS is one of only six agencies in Maryland, and one of only 25 school districts in the U.S. and Canada to receive this award. This is the first time that HCPSS is a recipient.
