Board of Education Approves FY16 Capital Budget Request

February 27th, 2015

The Howard County Board of Education approved on February 24, 2015 its FY2016 Capital Budget Request, totaling $89.6 million.

The most significant projects included in the budget include a replacement Wilde Lake Middle School, which will be the first net-zero energy school in Maryland, and a major renovation for Patuxent Valley Middle School. Both projects are scheduled for completion by August 2017. Major renovation and addition projects at Swansfield and Waverly elementary schools, both scheduled for completion in August 2018, also account for a significant portion of the budget request.

The school system’s capital budget funds the construction of new school facilities and provides for renovations, additions, roofing and barrier-free projects, technology equalization, and the purchase or relocation of portable classrooms for existing facilities.

The Board will submit its budget request to Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman by mid-March.
