HCPSS Partnership with The Columbia Bank Introduces Students to Financial Planning

October 31st, 2014

The Columbia Bank is partnering with Veterans Elementary School to introduce students to economics, finance and the importance of personal financial planning. The partnership will be formalized with an official signing on Monday, Nov. 3 at the Sheraton Columbia Waterside Restaurant, 10207 Wincopin Circle, Columbia, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Under the terms of the partnership agreement, The Columbia Bank will create an in-school bank for Veterans Elementary students. Selected fourth and fifth grade students will be trained as tellers to collect deposits from their fellow classmates and learn how a local institution operates. The Columbia Bank representatives also will participate in Teach Children to Save Day and will offer financial seminars about money management to staff and parents. In line with Vision 2018, this partnership embeds problem-solving and critical thinking into the instructional program.

Howard County Board of Education Vice Chairman Ann De Lacy and Veterans Elementary School Principal Robert Bruce will join The Columbia Bank Branch Manager Gina Hicks and Senior CSR Stephanie Alper at the event.

The Columbia Bank, headquartered in Columbia, MD, is a full service community bank with 38 banking offices located throughout the region. The Columbia Bank is an affiliate of Fulton Financial Corporation.

The Howard County Public School System’s Partnerships Office unites businesses and community organizations with schools to enhance the educational experience.
