Online Employment Application - Tips and Suggestions

The purpose of this page is to offer tips and suggestions that may help make your application experience more positive. The information is organized to correspond with each page of the online application. Thank you for your interest in the Howard County Public School System.

Home Page/General Tips and Suggestions:

All applicants must complete all sections of the online employment application to be considered for employment with HCPSS. A resume should not be substituted for the information required on the employment application.

Use the "roller ball" on your mouse while simultaneously holding the "Ctrl" key to increase and/or decrease the font size of the application.

Use the button with an image of a set of keys located in the top right portion of the screen to log off. It is strongly advised that you use this button to log off at the end of your session or before you leave the computer. In addition, it is wise to close all browser windows at the end of your session.

Use the navigation buttons within the application to move from page to page while completing the application. You may also use the numbers located in the top right portion of the screen to navigate through the application. Do not use the navigation buttons from your browser software.

You may return to prior screens while completing the application, but be advised that you will not have access to your application once you submit it on the last screen.

You may type the first letter to locate the desired state or country more quickly rather than scrolling down the entire list on the screens where that type of information is requested.

It is advisable to attach documents such as resumes, cover letter, etc. on the "profile" section found on the main page of the online application and on screen 15.

Click the "help" icon for further clarification on each page.

Use current phone numbers and/or phone numbers where you can be reached during the summer months.

If you check "yes" to any of the questions listed on this screen, please provide information including dates, charges, maiden or past names, the name on the charge/disposition, etc.

Screens 6-11

These screens ask the applicant to provide information on the bottom portion of the page and then ask the applicant to click the "add" button. You must click the "add" button before navigating away from this page to ensure that your information is included with your application. Once you add the information you cannot edit that information. You may however delete the information using the delete button and re-enter the information as needed.

The school/institution list only includes colleges and universities. Enter the name of your high school in the box labeled "other."

Screen 10

PDS interns and students teachers should use this screen to list their internship/student teaching experiences.

Screen 15

There is a 4MB limit when attaching documents to the online application. You may send other documents to careers@hcpss.org should you exceed the 4MB limit. It is advisable to attach documents such as resumes, cover letter, etc. in this screen and on the "profile" screen found on the main page of the online application.
