Temporary Services Application and Hiring Process

Individuals applying for a Temporary Services position must provide a completed online application by the position closing date, in order to be considered for employment with the Howard County Public School System. A new application is required for each position of interest.

Please review all steps before applying.


Step 1: Application

  1. Complete a Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) online employment application with the required documents as specified below for every position of interest. All applicants must complete all sections of the online employment application to be considered for employment with HCPSS. Be sure to include education and a complete work history from high school to the present, including any periods of unemployment. A resume should not be substituted for the information required on the employment application.

  2. Attach supporting documents to your application before submitting your online application. All documents, except references, may be attached electronically to the application. Once an online application is submitted it cannot be edited. Any additional attachments/documents should be uploaded to the applicant's "profile screen" and/or delivered to the Office of Human Resources at 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City, Maryland 21042. All required documents must be received along with your online application by the position closing date.

  3. Submit three professional references. (All references must be mailed directly to the HCPSS by each individual serving as a reference and should address performance during the most recent employment.)

    • References received must match the reference names listed in online application.
    • One reference must come from the most current supervisor.
    • Additional references should be from other supervisors such as managers, directors, etc.
    • In some situations, other professional references may be accepted.
    • All references must be mailed directly to the HCPSS by each individual serving as a reference.
    • References hand delivered to the HCPSS must be individually sealed in a company envelope.
    • References should be mailed to the Howard County Public School System, Office of Human Resources, Route 108, Ellicott City, Maryland 21042, Attn: Office of Human Resources.

  4. After you have submitted your online application, you will receive an e-mail acknowledging receipt of your application. Receipt of this email does not verify that your application was complete.


Step 2: Application Review

  1. The HCPSS will review your application and accompanying documents.

  2. Applicants will be required to have submitted a complete online application along with the accompanying documents before the closing date in order to be placed on the list of qualified applicants.

  3. A complete application includes the following:

    • Submission of the online application with all sections of the application completed.
    • A minimum of three professional references.
    • Education verification.
    • Evidence of 48 college credits or a passing score of the ParaPro test, required licenses and/or supporting documents, if applicable.
