Administrative Application and Hiring Process
All applicants must complete all sections of the online employment application to be considered for employment with HCPSS. A resume should not be substituted for the information required on the employment application.
Individuals applying for an administrative position must provide a completed application in order to be considered for the position.
Please review all steps before applying. The steps described below may take place over an extended period of time.
Step 1: Application
- Complete a Howard County Public School System online employment application with the required documents as specified below and in the job description. All applicants must complete all sections of the online employment application to be considered for employment with HCPSS.
- The following documents must be received along with your application by the closing date. All documents, except references, may be attached electronically to the application.
- Cover Letter.
- Resume including salary history.
- College transcripts - Photocopies of unofficial or official transcripts are acceptable to begin the process.
- Photocopy of Maryland teaching certificate or licensure, certificate of eligibility, or other valid state teaching certificate or licensure if required by the job description.
- Praxis Series test scores or other test scores required to obtain certification and/or licensure if required by the job description.
- Other licenses or certifications if required by the job description.
- Three professional references are required.
- One of the references must come from the most current supervisor.
- Additional references should be from higher-level supervisors such as managers, directors, superintendents, etc.
- In some situations, other professional references may be accepted.
- All references must be mailed directly to the HCPSS by each individual serving as a reference.
- References hand delivered to the HCPSS must be individually sealed in a company/organization envelope.
- After you submit your application, you will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application.

Step 2: Application Review and Screening Process
- The HCPSS will complete a preliminary review of your application and accompanying documents.
- Based upon the preliminary review, system needs, and a completed application, a candidate’s file may be referred to a screening committee for further review.
- Based upon the screening committee’s review and system needs, candidates may be referred for a panel interview.
