Program Objectives
Secondary Mathematics program objectives are:
- Develop students' critical
thinking, problem solving, communications, and computation
skills.
- Develop skills which enable
students to apply mathematics to all areas of study.
- Support mathematics for
minorities, at-risk students, and students with special
needs.
- Offer programs which develop
proficiency in functional mathematics.
- Continue to assess program
effectiveness. Support in-school leadership in mathematics.
- Integrate the use of
technological resources, such as calculators and computers.
- Support mathematics league
competitions. Help integrate mathematics, science, and
technology.
- Support the integration of
mathematics into other disciplines.
- Provide opportunities for
students to value mathematics.
- Develop students' confidence
in their own ability to do mathematics.
