Work Enclave

Enclave Student“Students perform a valuable service for Town Center by folding, taping, and labeling approximately 1700 newsletters each month. It is a joy having the Enclave students come here weekly to assist us with the variety of tasks. They arrive with broad smiles and ready-to-work attitudes … It has truly been a great benefit to Town Center Community Association to be involved in the Enclave Program.”
- Patricia B. Laidig
Village Manager, Town Center Community Organization

A Work Enclave is a supervised work training program for students receiving special education. The enclave provides a transition step between school and independent work for those who need a higher degree of support or supervision.

Each enclave consists of a small group of students who perform basic, repetitive tasks under the close supervision of special education personnel. The experience enables students to achieve success in a community vocational setting while learning the attitudes and skills necessary to work independently, including:

  • Using effective socially appropriate communication skills
  • Following directions
  • Sompleting jobs
  • Seeking assistance when needed
